These classic avenues of civilization are found the world over. But they are so much more. They are also recurring forms in and through which human beings go about living generally. As such, these are nothing less than fundamental modes of human becoming.
Here we look into them one by one — swinging open the particular gateway into the world that each represents — in order to grasp its overall aim and see the formative endeavor it embraces, which harbors distinct ways of experiencing both people and things in general, and thereby of living out one’s life in the world.
